World of Skiing:

Crud Skiing

In a perfect world we'd all be skiing in thigh deep powder everyday but unfortunately Mother Nature doesn't always give that to us. A day like today, beautiful, sunny day, you've got some crud skiing here. Crud can be just as fun as powder. I'll show you how.

Skiing in crud, there's a lot of excess snow. As you can see my alpine skis are drifting away from my body and I'm losing my balance because of it. It's almost like it's got a mind of its own. So in order to overcome this problem, I'm going to pull my uphill ski back just a little bit and I want you to really think about matching your bindings.

So suddenly my uphill ski is assisting me in carving rather than hindering me. See what happens when you've got your uphill ski a little too far forward (top left) is you're not even using the whole top part of your ski. And that's what makes it wander and drift a little bit in this loose crud snow.

So what you're going to do is pull your uphill ski back a little bit without jeopardizing your weight on your downhill ski. Keep that ski aligned. (right)

Hope that works for you.
