Easier Turns

I got a great tip from super Dave Robinson of the Whistler Ski School for making turns easy and it worked. Whatever ability level you are.

Say you're not quite parallel yet. Just turn your right knee to the right, turn your left knee to the left and it's the same if you're parallel skiing. Turn your left knee to the left; turn your right knee to the right.

It's the inside knee. Look, the first move I make right here is I point the inside knee in the direction I want to go. It means that I have to balance myself so that I can turn the inside knee first. Another way to put it is that you move the inside knee, that's this one here, toward the turn. See, if you're not quite parallel yet, it's because you're late changing the inside knee to the direction you want to go. So to ski parallel consistently, just focus on pointing the inside knee in the direction that you want to go.

Here we are ready to start the turn, knees are nicely bent, they're both kind of pointing this way. The first thing we do then is we focus on this one; we come up like that and we point the left knee in this case toward the left turn. Lets show you that again. So I flex to get ready to turn and then I move the left knee toward the left. Okay. So get yourself ready to turn by flexing then point the right knee toward the right turn.

And this little tip of Dave's works great in a more advanced situation too like short turns. I just tried to balance myself so that I could direct my inside knee toward the direction I want to go. It's like too easy almost. Point your left knee here to the left to turn left. Point your right knee to the right to turn right. Left to the left. Right knee to the right. I love this.
