Ski Television:

Leaving Lines

How's your carved turn lineage? Meaning, what kind of lines do you leave when you're trying to ski and can you make carved turns with clean cutting lines like these?

You know, lots of us now we have these beautiful, short, shapely skis

Look at these 12 metre turns these Solomon Street Racers will leave. But you can only get that clean-cutting 12 metre turn if you can get the feeling of leaving marks with both skis and particularly with your uphill skis.

So look, if you just walk up the hill that's one way to get the feeling for that. See, there's the marks from both skis.

Now check it out. Here's what you might want to do next. Get both skis on edge and just rock backwards and forwards. Just a little bit like that. We want both skis to cut and when they cut cleanly like that...look, there's your two marks. Ok? Now we'll just take it up a notch.

So there's those little marks again and now look just a little faster straight across the hill and cut with both skis. And take a look from behind here. Look, stand and cut with both skis. And just use that feeling as your guide. Stand on both feet. Cut cleanly with both skis, allow yourself lots of time, or to put that another way, don't be in a hurry. Give yourself time just to feel both skis cut on this side and just stand up and cut on that side.

You gotta let the skis work for you. You don't want to be turning the feet too much. Just cut this way, relax. Cut the other way and really concentrate on getting the cutting going with the uphill ski.

That's what helps me the most. So try it. I hope it works for you.
