If you’re an intermediate parallel skier, one of the things you can do to improve your skiing is fix your pole plant. To ski more rhythmically, here are three things you can think about doing. Swing the pole with your wrist, expose your forearm, and put the pole in at a forward angle.
Swing the pole with your wrist – I can understand that, but what could you possibly mean by "expose the forearm and put the pole in at a forward angle?" Good question, and I’m going to answer it now.
Expose the forearm, I guess I really mean expose the underside of the forearm. I want you to get the feeling of putting the pole in like that with this part exposed.
And the forward angle, put the pole in like that - you want to ski rhythmically. By planting the pole at a forward angle, and by exposing the underside of the forearm, we plant the pole earlier and we hold the body back a little, and these are really important ingredients for quicker rhythmical skiing. So if skiing on a quicker tempo isn’t one of your strengths, maybe a little work on the pole plant might make it one, and specifically, I mean remember to swing the pole forward with the wrist. Expose the underside of our forearm, and perhaps most importantly, try this – stick it in at that angle. I hope this works for you.
