Ski Television:
Steep and Bumpy
So here's our situation, top of Whistler Bowl, magnificent view, great STEEP, bumpy run. The first run after lunch, so I’m going to just kind of pick my way down here until I can get the rhythm of these bumps, because they have been cut up a little bit by people traversing into them.
So, I just swing the pole, turn the feet, and get it going. Now the focus for me these first few turns is pretty basic. I want to establish my rhythm so I get an early pole plant (top photo) happening. I Swing the pole forward and make sure that I’m ready to turn. The pole is definitely one focus: get the pole ready early so that you can get the turn started. The other focus for me is making sure that I’m turning my feet. I don't want to be edging too hard, too early, that slows down the turning. My focus is to keep turning so that I can come down at a reasonable speed. (bottom photo
As I try this again, I make an early pole plant, turn the feet, and I’m going to kind of aim for the top of each bump with my pole plants. That's an easy place to turn the feet, relatively speaking.
And that just may get me down the Whistler Bowl unscathed.
I hope it might work for you, too.
