What I want to show you today is about emphasis. I want to try and show you how I focus on steering, at the top half, and linking in the bottom half. Another way to think of it is to do the steering at the beginning, and let the skies run a little straighter at the end. Technically speaking, this is about steering while you extend, and its a point of emphasis, I want you to do more with the beginning part of the turn, so your not so rushed and frantic at the end of the turn that you can't relax, just let the skies go straight, and that will really help you with your linking. It's a point of emphasis, you want to put the emphasis on the right syllable.
Here's what some folks do by way of putting a different emphasis on it. Look, up, not much turning, and then a lot of turning at the end. Look, up, not much turning and then a strong knee flex, and that means that there's a lot of effort to have to bring the skies around at the end. Instead of this, steer at the beginning, relax at the end. I know this is kind of subtle - look up and turn, flex and relax a little bit. Up and turn, get the turning done in the top half of the turn, relax so you can focus on linking in the bottom half.
Extend and turn the feet, then relax as you flex, and that will help you with your linking. If you're still trying to get the turn finished at the end, and you're putting the pressure on like that, just think about it. How are the skis going to go out there? While the body crosses over, you've got to be loose at that point. The only way you're going to be loose is if you've got the turn done. Get the turn done early. Put the emphasis in the right syllable. Hope that works for you.
