United States:

Stratton, Vermont

From the top of Stratton Mountain, you can head out in many different directions and find runs that cover 180° of the mountain. Skier's will find a wide variety of terrain with many rolling groomers offering excellent cruising from top to bottom.

When you visit Stratton, be sure to visit the Adventure Center at the top of the Gondola. The Adventure Center offers you the opportunity to try some of the new toys available on the ski market today.  You may find that you like skiing on Snowblades or other short skis that have names like twin-tips or even telemarking. If you are new to this type of equipment, the Stratton Mountain Ski School has experts in all area of skiing to help you make the necessary adjustments to enjoy the new equipment.

Stratton Mountain was the first resort in the East to welcome and encourage the growth of snowboarding.  If fact, the man who invented snowboarding, Jack Burton, first began to ride a snowboard at Stratton. The resort's dedication to snowboarding is reinforced by hosting the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships each winter. The U.S. Open is one the major snowboarding competitions in the world and attracts the tops riders and thousands of spectators each year.

Stratton Mountain is laid out with the main access to the runs provided by the 12 passenger, high speed gondola. 90 runs , 75% of which have snowmaking, fan out from the top of the gondola. Stratton's snowmaking system has been upgraded with $3.5 Million of improvements this year, which means good skiing begins in mid November, quick recoveries when mother nature lets us down, and lots of snow well into the spring.

The mountain has 563 acres of skiable terrain, 70 acres which are gladed. The distribution of terrain is 35% novice, 37% intermediate and 28% advanced and expert. There are 12 lifts in total. The American Express, a 6 passenger, high speed detachable lift, provides the quickest access to mid mountain and the snowboarding park.

At the bottom of the mountain, the village includes slope side condominium accommodation and a number of hotel options.   The clocktower at the centre of the resort rises above the pedestrian village where many shops, restaurants and services are located.  Some of the restaurants and bars in Stratton Village include Mulligans, The Green Door Pub and Grizzly's, Stratton's newest and hottest aprés ski spot.

Stratton Mountain has a fully equipped sports centre — The Stratton Sports Center — with weight rooms, exercise classes, massages, squash courts, swimming pool and hot tubs. Much of what you find at the resort today was here prior to Intrawest purchasing Stratton Mountain in 1994. Intrawest has invested $26 Million in capital improvements to date and laid the foundation upon which a mega resort can grow.  To see where Intrawest will take Stratton you only need to look a short distance north of the 49th parallel at the company's flagship resort, Blackcomb, B.C., or Stratton's northern sister in the East, Tremblant, Quebec.
